Fabulous Freakin Weekend

one down, one left to go! go gators, etc.
This weekend ended quite nicely, I must say. I went down to Ocean City because I have never been before. I found a hotel, stayed and watched the game. It was the epitome of alone time. Strange that I sought that out, but I did. No regrets. In the morning, I woke early and headed off to Assateaugue Island. The contrast between the two places is beyond remarkable. Ocean City is full of people, cheerleaders (a convention), restaurants with lame innuendo (Big Peckers, Dr.Unks), amusement rides ?? Assateague, this time of year has no sign of life other than the horses, birds, trees and scrubs.
I head out to the beach. A little weary of the lack of people. It was a cold, empty, ghostly day. The water with the overcast sky had the eeriest rolling blue-green breaks. I found myself at the end of the world, contemplating existence. Arcade Fire’s, “Ocean of Noise” set the scene nicely.
Then in the distance over the dunes these majestic figures appear, heading toward the shore. Horses, one after the other. I am caught and held by this vision. Mostly because they seemed to come out of the fog, like a dream or movie I’ve seen. The were not wild horses, like I had hoped. They were being led to the water to practice being in the waves.
I met Sandy, a very large blonde horse who started walking toward me as I approached. He blew hot air from his nostrils onto my freezing hands and it made me laugh. His nose was so sweet feeling and it endeared him to me. I kept help offering my hands even though they were food-less.
I tried to leave the island several times, but the icy blue-green water called me back every time. Eventually I did leave. What a weird weekend.
